Anime kiss driver#
In an action-packed comedic twist, the delivery driver arrives so rapidly that they slam the truck into the demon, effectively nullifying the need for the restraints Shu ordered. While he and Kisara argue over the price of the item, the demon escapes - leading Shu to impulsively hit the order button. His solution, of course, is to rapidly deliver the item from the show's version of Amazon. They're told to leave the demon alive, and Shu quickly realizes he doesn't have the proper equipment to capture the demon. For example, in the second episode's climax, Kisara and Shu are pursuing a demon that knows something about the protagonist's past. While there are dramatic scenes that help build up the world and characters, these moments are frequently broken up by slapstick jokes - often at the protagonists expense - and gleefully poke fun at Kisara and Ayano's fixation with Shu.
Anime kiss series#
While Engage Kiss is no Jujutsu Kaisen, the production team behind the series know exactly how silly the concept behind the show is. With much of the current era of anime and manga focusing on emotionally driven drama, psychological twists, and life-or-death action, it's almost a breath of fresh air to see a series that is painfully self-aware as to what it is. One of the biggest highlights of Engage Kiss and its 2010s influences is the way the series leans heavily into its comedy aspects.

This type of love triangle was extremely prevalent during the 2010s, and so far, Engage Kiss has handled these tropes in a way that makes it feel like something that should have aired during this era of anime. While this may or may not be relative to how the plot of Engage Kiss will progress, it's clear to see that the rivalries are incredibly similar thus far. This relationship in particular may remind anime fans of the rivalry between the love interests in Darling in the Franxx - Ichigo and Zero Two - down to the character's having identical hair colors.

The tsundere archetype has been popular in anime for years, so while this is nothing new for seasoned anime fans, the dichotomy between the two female leads is engaging, and propels the series forward. The wealthy demon hunter does everything in her power to provide for Shu, all the while hurling insults in his direction.

Kisara's obsessive nature towards Shu heavily contrasts with the will-they-won't-they relationship between the protagonist and his tsundere ex-girlfriend Ayano. Selfishness for the sake of feeding into their obsessions with their respective love interests. This type of narrative is incredibly reminiscent of Future Diary's Yuno Gasai, who traveled between timelines as a god, well aware of Yuki's inevitable demise in her original timeline in order to relive the events time and time again, regardless of how much suffering she caused in the process. She even goes as far as apologizing to Ayano, although, she spares the details of her apology. While Kisara seems tolerant that Shu doesn't truly love her, it's obvious that his lingering feelings for Ayano have begun to weigh heavily on her as she relives his memories each time she consumes one. She enters his home without permission, stalks him when she suspects he's out with another woman, and perhaps most worrisome - Kisara consumes Shu's memories of his previous romantic relationship to fuel her power. While Kisara has - thus far - not acted out in obsessive violence towards those close to her partner Shu, the series is hinting at her growing fixation and possession over the protagonist.
